When most people think of Galveston, they think of pastel beach houses or the historically significant collection of picturesque Victorian architecture that dots Galveston’s residential streets. But one look at Emerald by the Sea and you might change your mind.
A 15-story high-rise resort on the coast of Galveston, the Emerald boasts that locals call it the “crown jewel” of the island. With 121 condominiums, all offering striking views of the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay, residents of this building enjoy all the amenities of modern luxury condo living while still being immersed in the unique culture of Galveston. Emerald by the Sea is only a few blocks from downtown and is close to the famed University of Texas Medical Branch; work and play are only a few blocks away, with Galveston’s nightlife, shopping, and restaurants always in view from the high life of the condominium. Although Galveston has changed quite a bit since the 19th century, when the Strand was called the “Wall Street of the South,” the city is still full of attractions to keep vacationers and new residents coming.
There are plenty of in-building options at Emerald by the Sea if, as the website says, “adventure is not what you seek.” The Emerald offers a heated spa, an infinity pool deck with three different pools, a movie theater with state-of-the-art equipment and leather chairs, and an adult game room offering poker, pool, foosball, and a flat screen TV. There’s also a wine room and a bar & grill: a perfect place to relax with the neighbors without ever having to leave the building.
Who lives there? “The majority of residents use the Emerald as their second homes,” says Frank at the sales desk. “We get people who work at the medical center, people who live in Houston, people from all over who come here for the winter, some empty-nesters, some retired couples.”
What do they love most about the Emerald? “The comfort and the amenities,” Frank says. The children’s pool, pictured to the left, is just one example of Emerald luxury. The in-house concierge doubtlessly points all residents to a personally tailored Galveston experience.
At Emerald by the Sea there are 2 and 3-bedroom units available, ranging from 900 to 3,000 square feet. The condos have an open floor plan, all stainless steel in the kitchen, and individually detailed balcony railings. The building is at a little over 50% occupancy, so if high-rise living in Galveston appeals to you, the Emerald is worth a first look and more.
